Chapter 29 part 2

By the time Zhou Han arrived with Lin Li and her parents, Zhou’s parents—along with young Zhou Jiabin—were already there.

As the hotel manager smiled and led the group toward the VIP private room, Lin Li’s mother tugged at her husband’s sleeve and whispered, "I get the feeling the Zhou family isn't just an ordinary family."

Father Lin didn't look at her; he simply nodded and replied softly, "No matter how extraordinary they are, they’ll just be our in-laws."

Mother Lin said nothing more; she understood her husband’s point. The exact nature of the Zhou family’s background didn't matter to them—they were simply marrying their daughter into the family, and as long as the Zhou family treated Lin Li well, that was enough.

The hotel manager opened the door himself and smiled at Zhou Han. "President Zhou, the elder Mr. Zhou and the others are already inside. I’ll go ahead and arrange for the kitchen to start serving the meal."

Zhou Han nodded. "Thank you for the trouble."

Beaming, the manager nodded back. "It’s my pleasure. I hope you enjoy your meal." With that, he turned and left.

Zhou Han turned to Lin Li’s parents. "Dad, Mom, let’s go in."

Father Lin nodded, and he and Mother Lin walked into the private room.

Just as Zhou Han was about to follow, Lin Li grabbed him. She leaned in close and whispered a warning in his ear: "Don't say anything inappropriate later."

Zhou Han glanced at her, smiled, but said nothing.

As soon as Father and Mother Lin entered, Mother Zhou rose to greet them with a smile. "In-laws, you’re here! Come, come—please, have a seat." As she spoke, she took Mother Lin’s hand and led her toward the dining table.

Father Zhou also stood up to welcome them, nodding at Father Lin with a rare smile. Before arriving, Mother Lin had been somewhat worried that the atmosphere might be awkward—unsure of what they would talk about once seated together. However, within minutes of arriving, she felt at ease. Mother Zhou was a cheerful, talkative woman who ensured there wasn't a single dull moment from the moment they walked in. She engaged Mother Lin in casual, friendly conversation, quickly warming up the atmosphere.

Having long held a leadership position, Father Zhou had a serious demeanor and found it difficult to smile naturally; yet, he genuinely valued his future in-laws. Although his smile was a bit stiff, his attitude was sincere.

The meal proceeded in a harmonious atmosphere. Towards the end, the conversation turned to the topic of Lin Li and Zhou Han’s wedding. Zhou’s parents wanted to host a proper ceremony for the couple; they felt that Lin Li had already made a sacrifice by marrying far away to Jiangcheng, and it would be unfair to her if she didn't also have a decent wedding. They viewed their daughter-in-law as their own child and wanted to give her everything she deserved.

Hearing this, any lingering concerns Lin’s parents had about their daughter vanished completely. When marrying off a daughter, what more could they ask for than a good son-in-law and a kind in-law family? As for the wedding itself, whether it happened or not no longer mattered.

Smiling, Mother Lin took Mother Zhou’s hand and said sincerely, "With you saying that, we have no more worries. We’ll be counting on you to look after our Xiao Li from now on."

Mother Zhou clasped her hand in return and said with a smile, "Oh, don't talk like that—we’re all one family now."

Mother Lin smiled as well, then glanced at Lin Li and Zhou Han. "As for the wedding, I have no objections. If the young couple wants one, that would be wonderful; but if they find it too much of a hassle, we’ll respect their decision."

At these words, everyone turned their gaze toward Lin Li and Zhou Han. Lin Li gave an awkward laugh and glanced at Zhou Han, only to see him calmly picking up food and eating as if nothing was amiss.

Mother Zhou, however, sensed something was up and called out, "Zhou Han."

"Hmm?" Zhou Han looked up, appearing puzzled.

"Say something—are we holding the wedding or not? We certainly shouldn't let Lin Li feel shortchanged," his mother said, implying that he ought to agree to the wedding.

Zhou Han nodded in understanding and simply said, "It’s up to me; I’ll do whatever Lin Li wants." As he spoke, he smiled at her.

Lin Li’s mouth twitched; she reached under the table and gave Zhou Han a hard pinch. Then, turning back to his mother with an awkward laugh, she said, "I think... I think we’d better hold off on the wedding for now. Zhou Han’s company has been really busy lately, so... we can talk about the wedding later."
